Kingston, Jamaica, April 12, 2010: The Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) is calling for applications for Master of Arts in Communication for Social and Behaviour Change (CSBC).

“This master’s programme, which is the only one like it offered in the Caribbean, equips students with the foundation and expertise to conceptualise, design and manage programmes for social and communication change,” explained Dr. Anthea Henderson, Lecturer and Acting Programme Coordinator.

The programme is innovative, timely and relevant to the needs of the Caribbean, serving participants from the entire region.

“Our CSBC programme is designed to match theoretical knowledge with social needs within the frame of communication solutions and interventions.  It offers an applied research orientation, and this is perhaps one of its greatest strengths, based on feedback from our graduates,” Dr. Henderson added.

The master’s programme in Communication for Social and Behaviour Change seeks to open opportunities for the participants to address global issues, ranging from the environment, climate change and disaster preparedness, responses to the crisis of HIV and AIDS, as well as other social and developmental issues.

This is a part-time programme, which runs for two calendar years, starting in January of Year One to December of Year Two.

The courses give hands-on experience to the participants as they learn to effectively communicate about development issues. The modules are taught and examined by an expert team of lecturers who are well-known regional and international scholars in their fields.

Further information on the programme can be obtained at http://mona.uwi.carimac.com or from CARIMAC, by calling (876) 977-2111 or 977-0898.
